Screenprinting is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh that is attached to an open frame of either wood or aluminium. There are various methods of putting an image on to a screen, from paper stencils to applying a light sensitive solution to the screen. Using a light exposure unit an image can be exposed onto the screen. When the screen is ready to print, paint is applied on to the mesh and using a squeegee the paint pushed through the mesh onto the surface of paper or fabric. There are various ways to screen print an image from separating the colours and lines which are each printed one by one to build up an image, to painting directly onto the screen giving a more painterly quality.
